Dharmendra Sewan is the singer, composer, lyricist and master of ceremony who occupied reverence in the Nepali planet of music after becoming the victor acquiring the second position in Nepali Tara. Also known as a son to Buddhi Pariyar (Resham Firiri hit maker), Dharmendra had the possession of two full length albums, naming Second and Mero Idol.

Dharmendra Sewan was born on 2nd Chaitra at Lake Side, Pokhara to Buddhi Pariyar and Dhan Maya Pariyar. ‘I really do not want to disclose my year of birth as I always feel that I am still sweet 16. Everyone wants to live younger and younger with their growing age and so do I: Dharmendra.’ Due to his parents’ profession as police personnel in Nepal Police, Dharmendra was brought to Kathmandu at the tender age of just 7 months after their positions at Mahendra Police Club, Kathmandu was stationed. Schooled at Adarsha Lower Secondary School till class 5, Dharmendra moved back to Pokhara and continued his education at Tal Barahi Secondary School. His love for music slowly started to blossom and the musical environment that his father had provided him was the most credited to. ‘My father used to be one of the active members in any special functions in Nepal Police as direction is concerned and was very close to music maestros like Arun Thapa and Prabin Gurung: Dharmendra.’

Dharmendra fronted his first band Damage Glitters and started to appear in local clubs, restaurants, eateries and other local level musical programs. ‘Since the band was not that tight yet very glittery, we named the band name as such. The band still exists in the local scene at Lake Side promoting tourism: Dharmendra Sewan’. After dreaming of making his name in the mainstream Nepali music, Dharmendra Sewan applied for Nepali Tara after it was instigated in 2005. ‘My father had always asked me to follow the mainstream meadow and therefore, I went to try my luck: Dharmendra.’

Nepali Tara concluded giving him good ranking after which he received love and respect from music companies. ‘Though I received second rank, I found a huge audience support and I took my failure to stand the best as my victory: Dharmendra’.

Student of music and English Literature at Ratna Rajya Campus, Dharmendra came up with his first debut album titled ‘Second’. ‘I named the album Second as I felt that the number 2 was lucky for me since I was born on 2nd Chaitra and my position in Nepali Tara was also the second. I thought that my name will live very long with this number: Dharmendra’. The album comprises of the songs like Ranga Ranga, Yo Andheri Raat, Timro Tyo Roopa Le, Ke Lai Chahiyo Tikho Churi, Swatantra and Kina Huncha Birakta. ‘Kina Huncha Birakta was the song that I composed at Hotel Radisson while we were staying at the hotel to compete among top 10 contestants. The song asks for how one can control himself/herself in his/her defeat: Dharmendra’.

In 2007, Dharmendra started his playback singing from the movie Raghuveer and following that, he has done his playback singing in other movies like Bodyguard, Kathmandu Night, Kina Kina, Sneha, Rang, The Game, Hamro Milan Kahile Huncha and others.

In 2009, Dharmendra came up with his second album Mero Idol comprising the songs like Jori Paari, Timi Jati Ramri Keti Le, Dherai Nai Tadpaesakyo, Manai Ta, Papi Nazar and others. Music videos for the songs Galti and Papri Nazar were produced receiving good airplay from Nepali television channels. Apart from singing, Dharmendra also worked as Master of Ceremony for Sprite Band Challenge, Freedom of Rock III. ‘I had never thought that I would be hosting a show like this: Dharmendra’

In 2012, Dharmendra is working for his third album that will comprise of his father’s compositions like Resham Firiri, Herda Ramro Machhapuchhure and other unrecorded creations. ‘My father has many compositions that are not documented properly. I am researching all of such and working out for my third album. There will be songs like Pahad Ma Hurkeki, Dailay Jalayau and others. Importantly, I could not select any other name for my album except Rastro Ko Geet since the popularity of Resham Firiri is both at national and international level: Dharmendra’.
