How patiently did you make this album?
Since I work in a retailer company in UAE as an Administrative Assistant, I had to manage my vacation to work for this album. Earlier, when I came to Nepal on my vacation, I worked for some 5 songs and this time, I worked for the rest and released this album.
How would describe the relationship among you, UAE and music?
I was very interested in singing since my childhood. After I completed my intermediate, I went to UAE and since then, I have been utilizing my free time by appearing in local concerts that has made my name somewhat popular. I believed that an individual will understand the importance of own heritage, culture and tradition only when s/he stays away from the homeland and same is the case with me. I have always wished to have the popularity in Nepal like I have in UAE.
What kind of responses have you experienced from the audience in UAE?
I started singing in UAE two years back. I used to perform cover versions, gazals and lok contemporary songs. I still remember when I performed the song ‘Nabirse Timilie by Anju Pant’. The responses was overwhelming and veteran musicians residing in the country encouraged me to work on my own album and since then, I have been working for the same.
You have worked with fresh writers, did not you feel hesitant?
My friends used to indicate the same to me but I do not believe in names, I believe in hard work instead.
How would you describe your life in UAE?
Well, I went to UAE in search of greener pastures. It is not easy to get what you want in the country like Nepal, if someone has minimum education like me. But in UAE, which is also known as ‘Europe of Gulf’, I have been posted in a good position. However, I sometimes wonder if I could have had the same popularity in Nepal like that I have in UAE.
Was practicing for music difficult?
It was difficult for me because I used to work 12 hours a day and since I stay quite far from my job station, I had to travel 2 hours everyday. Giving some time to practice music and resting was a challenging tasks for me.
You also have worked as a composer. How was your experience ?
Yes, I have composed two songs. Both of the songs Badnami Huncha and Maile Rojeko are written by Nimesh Giri. Composing was my interest and I do not want to get popular as a composer because I want to concentrate on my singing first.
What difference in audience from Nepal and UAE did you see?
In comparison to the audience of Nepal, UAE has a great craze for music. I wish to have such scenario in Nepal too.
Are you financially satisfied as a singer in UAE?
Actually, Nepali organizations are not permitted to be legally registered there. Despite of these facts, some organizations have managed to be registered like Nepali Samaj under which some institutional bodies like Tamang Society, Magar Society keep on organizing different programs for different causes. They invite me to give my contribution for the betterment of the cause and I participate to contribute my part. I do not have high expectation and I have been happy like this.
What has helped you to do this album successfully?
First, the technology. I mean I used to exchange emails with musicians who used to compose tunes and they used to reply back to me. I used to practise after listening to that. Second, my friends naming Basanta Sapkota, Mallika Karki, Deepak Limbu have always guided me to go through correct processes. This has helped me to utilize my time properly.
